Government for the People
"We won't send all our tax dollars to other areas of the state and need to have a garage sale of our community's resources when I'm in the Assembly." – Melissa Fox
For too long, “do-nothing” politicians have represented us in Sacramento. They haven't listened to the voters or the needs of our communities – and instead have put the interests of lobbyists and big contributors above the interests of the people of our District.
They've created gridlock in Sacramento and brought nothing back to our community.
Like many of you, Melissa is angry at the gridlock, backroom deal making, reckless borrowing and the lack of accountability or responsibility in Sacramento. She's angry at the politicians who would rather play politics as usual ithan solve our problems. She's angry at the politicians who offer nothing but warmed-over rhetoric about cutting taxes for multinational corporations, while throwing our teachers, firefighters, and police out onto the street. She's angry that these politicans have failed to bring tax dollars back to our District for our schools, grow our businesses, create jobs and strengthen our communities.
They've broken their promises to put the interests of the people first.
Melissa’s sole concern will be the interests of the people of our District. She will fight to make sure that our tax dollars never again disappear into Sacramento to be spent in other areas of the state --- she'll make sure that our tax dollars come back to our District for our schools, our local businesses and our communities.
That's why Melissa is endorsed by Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang. who says that "Melissa Fox will go to Sacramento and bring money back for our schools and colleges, our local police and fire and our local businesses. She is more interested in results than in politics. I look forward to working with Melissa on the issues that are most important to our community."
Melissa will be a dedicated and passionate leader in the fight against wasteful government spending, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. She will fight to end the power of lobbyists and special interests to make backroom deals – like the one that lead to sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds – and fight for greater openness and transparency and to restore accountability and responsibility to Sacramento.
Melissa will make it a priority to eliminate wasteful government boondoggles, such as private toll roads, when our traffic is getting worse every day, we have the worst traffic gridlock in the country, and congestion requires freeways that serve all of the people.
She will fight to cut the absurd number of unelected government boards and commissions, which serve primarily as sources of political patronage, cronyism and corruption.
Melissa will also fight to require state agencies to report their reasons for issuing no-bid contracts or awarding a contract to other than the low bidder, bringing more sunshine to a government that has operated in the dark for far too long.
She will hold frequent meetings throughout the District to hear directly from the people about what government should, and should not, be doing to improve our schools, our roads and transportation, and our parks and beaches, strengthen our communities, and help our businesses grow.
Melissa knows that it's time to stop playing politics with problems we should have fixed long ago.
A government is only as good as the people who run it, and we need leaders with the values and the courage to do what it takes to make government work again for the people it is meant to serve.
Melissa will bring to government a much need breath of fresh air, new ideas, honesty and openness – with a passionate commitment to the people of the 70th Assembly District and California’s future.
